Showcasing Diversity Beyond African Americans

Although founded to educate students and the broader community on African American and African culture and history, the Black Cultural Center quickly expanded to serve other people of color on campus. The Center has focused on Indigenous, Latinx, and Asian communities that members of the Tech community belong to.

Indigenous Cultures

Native American cultural programming has included a presentation and traditional Cherokee dance performed by Shea Redhorse in November 2019. Alumnus Sayota Knight and his neo-traditional Native American folk band, Anasazi Secret, performed on campus in 2011.

Latinx

Members of the Tech Latinx community have diverse roots in the Americas. They have represented a mix of Indigenous, African, and European cultures from Mexico, the Carribbean, Central America, and South America. Black Cultural Center events have sought to showcase the range of Latinx cultures.
