The staff of the Tennessee Tech
Minority Affairs Office housed in
the Leona Lusk Officer Black
Cultural Center, welcomes you.

~

The Black Cultural Center was
established in 1989 as a place
where African-American students could find
support among their peers at Tennessee Tech.
The center opened its doors officially in August
1990.

In 1964, Tennessee Technological University
admitted its first black students. Before then,
black residents of Middle Tennessee had only
one choice if they wanted to attend a public
university - Tennessee State University. They
faced the economic and logistical obstacles of
commuting to Nashville and beyond for higher
education.
Recognizing those obstacles, Tennessee Tech
students and a board of administrators and faculty chose to rename the university's Black Cultura l Center in the spring of 1996 in honor of
its first black alumnus, Leona Lusk Officer, who
made numerous sacrifices to obtain something
that many today take for granted. Officer earned
her degree in elementary education, graduating
in 1965.
The Leona Lusk Officer Black Cultural Center
offers students an opportunity to learn more
about African American culture through books,
photographs and works of art. It is a place to
expand a student's cultural awareness and
knowledge; a place to relax, study, and have fellowship with friends; a place to keep abreast of
African-American news via related periodicals.
The Black Cultural Center sponsors various
cultural, social, educational, and career-related
activities to further expand the potential of future
leaders.

Don't Cry

Why do you cry? He has risen.
Why are you weeping? He's not dead.
Why do you cry? he has risen.
Why are you weeping? He's not dead.
He paid it all on that lonely highway(hayyyy). And his anointing I can
feel. He shed his blood (ohh ohh ohh). For my
transgressions (ohh ohh ohh). And by his stripes we are healed.
Why do you cry? He has risen.
Why are you weeping? He's not dead.
So as you go through lifes journey(neeeee). Don't you worry lift up
your head. Don't you cry (ohh ohh ohh) stop your weeping
(ohh ohh ohh) He has risen He's not dead.
[Chorus]
Don't cry
wipe your eyes
He's not dead.
(ohh ohh ohh ohh)
Don't weep
He's not asleep
Je-hovah
He's not dead
(ohh ohh ohh ohh)
Don't cry
wipe your eyes
He's not dead

In The Sanctuary -

by Kurt Carr

We lift our hands in the sanctuary
We lift our hands to give You the glory
We lift our hands to give You the praise
And we will praise You for the rest of our days, Yes
We will praise You for the rest of our days
We clap our hands in the sanctuary
We clap our hands to give You the glory
We clap our hands to give You the praise
And we will praise You for the rest of our days, Yes
We will praise You for the rest of our days
We sing our song in the sanctuary
We sing our song to give You the glory
We sing our song to give You the praise
And we will praise You for the rest of our days, Yes
We will praise You for the rest of our days
Jesus, we give You the praise
Emmanuel, we lift up Your name
Heavenly Father, coming Messiah
And we will praise You for the rest of our days, Yes
We will praise You for the rest of our days
Hallelujah in the sanctuary, Hallelujah we give You the glory
Hallelujah, we give You the praise
And we will praise You for the rest of our days, Yes
We will praise You for the rest of our days
Yes, Lord for the rest of our days

More Than Anything - Lamar Campbell
I lift my hands in total adoration unto You
You reign on the throne for You are God and God alone
Because of You my cloudy days are gone
I can sing to You this song
I just want to say that I love You more than anything
(Repeat)
Love me in Your Arms
You were my shelter from the storm
When all my friends were gone
You were right there all along
I never knew a love like this before, Oh
I just want to say that I love You more than anything
I Love You Jesus
I worship and adore You
Just want to tell
Lord, I Love You more than anything

The Presence of the Lord Is Here - Byron Cage
The presence of the Lord is here,
The presence of the Lord is here,
I feel it in the atmosphere,
The presence of the Lord is here,
The presence of the Lord is here.
The spirit of the Lord is here,
The spirit of the Lord is here,
I feel it in the atmosphere,
The spirit of the Lord is here,
The spirit of the Lord is here.
The power of the Lord is here,
The power of the Lord is here,
I feel it in the atmosphere,
The power of the Lord is here,
The power of the Lord is here.
Everybody blow the trumpet,
And sound the alarm,
Because the Lord is in the temple,
Let everybody bow,
Let all the people praise Him now,
The Lord is here!
A blessing from the Lord is here,
A blessing from the Lord is here,
I feel it in the atmosphere,
A blessing from the Lord is here,
A blessing from the Lord is here.
Everybody blow the trumpet,
And sound the alarm,
Because the Lord is in the temple,
Let everybody bow,
Let all the people praise Him now,
The Lord is here!
I can feel the presence of the Lord,
And I'm gonna get my blessing right now.
The presence of the Lord is here!
