W ith the dissolution of the Geier Consent Decree in September of 2006, the state schools of Tennessee lost the ability to offer scholarship monies to students based solely on ethnicity. This is particularly detrimental to universities such as Tennessee Tech, who have historically struggled to enroll, retain and graduate minority students (especially AfricanAmerican students). Creating the Diversity Scholarship Endowment will have an enormous impact because of its immediacy in terms of increasing the ethnic diversity of our campus. The initial dollar goal is to have $10,000 to simply establish the endowment. The greater goal is to generate $1,000,000 in endowment funds that will produce approximately $50 ,000 in annual funding to go towards minority scholarships. .. ..
