Clip of James Harris

Description

Clip of James Harris speaking during the Celebrating a Legacy panel discussion on November 12, 2020. Harris (Class of 1990) describes the context of young Black people feeling more empowered to make change in the late 1980s as an influence behind him and his peers pushing for the founding of the Black Cultural Center.

Transcript:
You know that time period was a time of Spike Lee making "Do the Right Thing" and "Public Enemy." The
time where young Black people were beginning to see themselves in media not as gangsters and hip-hop rappers, but just really as people who had a voice.
