Derryberry and the Golden Eagle

Creator

Description

The metal golden eagle was “liberated” in 1952 from Monteagle Hotel by three Tech students. For more information on this heist, see here: https://www.tntech.edu/news/releases/monteagle-celebration-to-pardon-eagle-heist.php
A full-scale replica of the eagle is perched on the tower of Derryberry Hall. The eagle and tower had a long history. They used to adorn Jere Whitson when it was Tennessee Tech's Main Library. The last image which has the notation "Dixie College," depicts the original campus building called only the "administration building". After much construction, demolition, and numerous changes, Derryberry Hall stands where the original administration building and Tech's campus started.
